Advent :: Auburn Football Practice Facility

The Project: Advent is one of our favorite companies to team with in Nashville. They get it: They’re creative, they listen to their clients, and they always leave behind satisfied folks and amazing work. When they asked us to help them capture a before-and-after video of the work they did for Auburn University’s new, $16 million practice football facility, we were all in. Did we mention we love college football?

The Result: Knowing the quality of work Advent does, we encouraged them to get Auburn’s athletic director to sit down and share his thoughts after the job was complete. When that panned out, and we got to interview him in front of the National Championship trophy … it was a special moment for us and for Advent. The challenge was to make a video that’s essentially about a bunch of walls be gripping and interesting. This phrase came up continually: “Let’s make it pop!”

David Lipscomb :: Athletics

The Project: The seeds for Yeah Yeah Creative were planted in high school, when Tyler and I attended David Lipscomb. We came to be friends on the cross country team, so when DLHS asked us to write and produce an athletics video, we were all for it.

The Result: The easy way out would have been to talk to the athletic director, the coaches, and maybe an athlete or two, toss in some B-roll of a few games and sports, and call it a day. But we wanted to give our alma mater something more, so we storyboarded and scripted a video with a little more of an edge to it. David Lipscomb has since had us turn this video into a 30-second commercial spot for television.

Favorite Moments: Catching a header goal on film was a stroke of good luck, and the athletes did a fantastic job with the script.

The Future :: Don’t You Dare

The Project: The Future is a group of four guys who relocated to Nashville from the Dakotas. We lucked into hearing their music while filming for Music City Unsigned, and we were immediately hooked. A few conversations and several months later, and we were filming The Future’s first music video and EPK. These guys are an absolute blast live – their stage presence and music just pulls you in immediately – and we wanted to find a way to reflect their energy and fun attitudes toward life.

The Result: We pitched the idea of an epic chase scene as the band made its way to a show, and The Future was all for it. Some of the ideas didn’t have the time or resources to materialize (a giant mob of business-class adults, extreme parkour), while some of the ideas turned out great (we love the car wreck).

Goodbye June :: EPK

The Project: Goodbye June‘s management, Cotton Valley Records Management, reached out to us to put together an EPK for the young, up-and-coming band. We’ve seen a lot of EPKs, and we’ve liked a few, but the EPK felt like it was stuck in a rut. You usually see interview, live music, interview, live music, and so on. We wanted to try to honor the traditional EPK format while pushing the creative edges where we could.

The Result: We love the way this EPK turned out. A lot of credit goes to the band and CVR. They’re so genuine and talented, and that’s at least half the battle in an EPK. Goodbye June was also game for an acoustic ending to the video, which just felt right. We feel like the result shows the spectrum of who Goodbye June is and who they could someday be, which is really what EPKs are all about.

Humming House :: Gypsy Django

The Project: Humming House‘s story to this point is a prime example of why we love Nashville so much. They gather around an idea for a unique sound. (We classify it as bluegrassgospeljazzblues. They might call it something more intelligible.) The esteemed Vance Powell hears it, loves it, and helps record and mix the album in his spare time. Other indie artists in Nashville jump on board as extras in the video. Momentum gathers through word of mouth. It’s like musical incest – in a good way.

The Result: The band came to us with a great kernel of an idea: a period house party. We loved it, and they let us co-brainstorm the dance scenes, the bridge, and the attempted “Be Our Guest” wine-pouring shot. It was a blast to film and edit, and we’re honored these talented folks entrusted us with their debut single.
